During the consultation, we will discuss your initial vision and any ideas or preferences for the cake/patisserie, including design, specific requirements, themes, and most importantly, flavour preferences.

If you wish to book a tasting appointment, Alix Rue Patisserie will create up to 6 bespoke flavours for you to choose from. The cost of a tasting appointment is £200, payable upon booking. The fee will be deducted from the final price if you continue with your order.

As each cake is custom-designed for each couple, a cake tasting is highly recommended to ensure you really do get the cake of your dreams, but it is possible to proceed without.

Full sketches, descriptions, cake designs and contract outlines will be sent over once the tasting appointment has been completed, or, if you choose not to have a tasting appointment, after the initial consultation.

  • Tasting Appointments

    The appointment will last for approximately one to two hours, during which you’ll be able to sample up to six flavours created based on discussions in the initial consultation. 

    While tasting, you will be able to provide feedback on flavours and fillings to ensure that you get the perfect combination for your taste. This is an integral part of the process, as each individual creation has a unique flavour profile based on your preferences. 

    After this appointment, we will refine the details and aim to confirm both the flavours and design choices. 

    Post-tasting

    You will receive final sketches/descriptions/designs of the cake/patisserie items within two weeks of the tasting appointment as well as a contract outlining and confirming the details discussed and payment process.

    A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure the booking, with the final balance due nearer the event date.

  • What is included in the cake tasting?

    The tasting includes 4-6 cake flavours, chosen based on your initial consultation. You will also have the opportunity to discuss design elements and receive a detailed sketch of the final cake design following the tasting appointment.

    How much does a cake tasting cost?

    The cake tasting costs £200. This fee will be redeemed against the final price of the cake if you proceed with the order.

    Can I choose the flavours for the tasting?

    Yes, during the initial consultation, we will discuss your flavour preferences and select the ones you wish to sample during the tasting session.

    What should I bring to the tasting?

    Bring any inspiration images, colour swatches, or ideas for your cake design that haven’t already been discussed or shared. This helps us understand your vision and create a cake that meets your expectations.

    How long does the cake tasting appointment last?

    The tasting session typically lasts between one and two hours.

    What happens if I need to cancel my tasting appointment?

    Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to cancel. The tasting fee is non-refundable, but the appointment can be rescheduled wherever possible.

    When should I book my cake tasting?

    We recommend booking your cake tasting at least 6-9 months before your event to ensure availability and sufficient time for planning. The earlier the better!

    Can I bring guests to the tasting?

    Yes, you can bring up to two guests to the tasting session. Please let us know in advance if you plan to bring additional people.

    What if I have dietary restrictions or allergies?

    Please inform us of any dietary restrictions or allergies during the initial consultation. We will do our best to accommodate your needs where reasonably possible.

    How do I redeem the tasting fee against my final order?

    If you decide to proceed with your order, the £200 tasting fee will be deducted from the final cost of your cake.

    Will drinks be available?

    Yes, Alix Rue Patisserie provides still and sparkling mineral water for the tasting, as well as a glass of Cremant to get a good feel for the sense of occasion.
